Retro Weekend

I just spent my weekend in 1954. I stayed home Friday night, and filled myself full of curry. A lazy evening alone at home and to bed early. I got up relatively early Saturday morning, and headed out to breakfast with a couple of friends at a waffle house on Belmont. Old recipes served at a newly renovated establishment. It was horrid. What used to be a busy- Sunday kind of restaurant was completely empty except for us. The waffles were fine, but disappointing. They had a lot more potential.

After breakfast, we went antiquing on Hawthorne. I bought some old books that I will dismantle and rebind. At vintage pink, my friend bought a really cool old bedframe and matching dresser.

We then headed to the roller skating rink at Oaks park (est. 1905). Roller skated, and took some pretty silly photos of us doing the hokey pokey with a bunch of 7 year olds.

Picked up the bed, headed home and watched Victor and Victoria. A silly Julie Andrews musical that took place in the 30's. Post-movie, we headed to the Doug-fir. We drank martinis, and had the most amazing platter of smoke salmon, capers, cream cheese, cucumbers, and crackers.

We ended the evening with a frantic race to uncover the hidden words on the side of a building. Turns out it said "American Brushes, Janitorial Services." Oh, and we forced some nice bouncer to take 13 'jumping' picture of us outside of Rontoms.

We had crepes fr breakfast this morning. There is a cute little restaurant on Alberta that serves really unique and tasty crepes. However...they kinda forgot to make mine...and then they forgot that they forgot to make mine...so, twenty minutes after my friends got done eating, I got my crepe. It was good, but not great. However, I blame my choice in menu items. My crepe was free, so at least they dealt with there mistake appropriately. Plus, there was an accordian player at the restaurant with a crazy-powerful voice. Yum. My crepe may have been so-so, but his voice was yummy.
