You say you want to see something cool?

Ow!

So I began my adult life last Monday. It seems like there is a new milestone every few months. I'm sure that will slow down soon enough, and I will become bored with the monotany, but for now I am enjoying all of the change.

Work is good. This has been the easiest job for me to start so far. No anxiety about not feeling competent (yes, I had self confidence issues while working at a bagel shop.) I feel prepared for what I need to be doing for the majority of the 8 hours per day. Thankyou education! The people I work with are nice and unintimidating...though they may be a bit boring. I keep checking over my shoulder for some hot guy to walk in with a measuring tape in one hand and a low cost energy efficient light bulb in the other, but no luck so far.

This week I have to present the work I have been doing on my first project to the executive director and the director of operations. Crunch time. And rumor has it that no matter what I bring in, it will get shot down. Which I believe, since the content for the whole thing is still yet to be determined, and I am designing on a whim...

The last two days at work have ben painful. I tweaked my back sometime last week, and it hurts like a 'MoFo.' Its wierd too, cuase its not my spine...or lower back. Its my side, but not my abdomen at all. Definately the back side of my side. Any ideas? I went curling last week, and its possible that I pulled something then...but the pain hasn't been consistent and is worse at work. Had to skip out on curling again tonight for fear of falling on the ice and having to slither off.

When I got home from work tonight, Charlie pranced up to me with his new haircut. prepare youselves. Its disturbing:

Before

After
Its dramatic, I swear. I'll post better pictures later.I am calling him Princess until February, at least.

Not Kidding.

It really is Arctic Blast 2009. Four or five blocks of Estacada flooded last night. We had over 4 inches of rain last night, followed by 2-6 inches of snow. The creek that runs through town got backed up at one of the bridges and created a small river running on the road between the high school and the junior high. The Library, which is located next to the pond that is formed as the creek runs into the public water system, flooded. It was built two years ago and got a foot of water throughout the whole thing, 3 to 8 inches of mud, and a slew of volunteers mucking it up. Every book on the bottom shelves will have to be thrown away, the carpet torn out.
YUCK!

On our street, the sewers were backed up and the man-hole down the street started pushing water out the top. A natural urban spring.

ARCTIC BLAST 2009!!!

Happy New Year! I think this is the most significant New Year I've celebrated. My job starts in 3 days and I foresee that bringing on even more change. Hooray.

After several failed attempts at making plans for New Years, I ended up staying home with my parents. We went out and saw Marley and Me (made me cry), and then came home and watched Mamma Mia! Both were bad movies, but good enough entertainment. The second one ended at 11:58 , so we had just enough time to flip over to Dick Clark. So sad... I don't think New Years Eve is supposed to make me sad. And I'm gonna presume that he's not so hard up on money that he is forced to host New Years. I guess its a choice and he doesn't need my sympathetic eyebrows and wincing.

So. Work on Monday. I am excited to get to work, but nervous about having to fill 8 hours of time with busy work. I can eaily sit down and design for 8+ hours, but when I first start, I don't know if they will know what to do with me. Hopefully setting up my email account will be complicated enough to last me most of the day.
